HMI Devices
Devices are the primary iRis HMI entities in iRis Cloud. They represent physical or virtual things — sensors, controllers, and emulators — that publish telemetry, report attributes.
A HMI Device requires a license to operate. You can register a license while you create the HMI Device, or later from the HMI Device details panel.
Managing HMI Devices
Section titled “Managing HMI Devices”Create a HMI Device
Section titled “Create a HMI Device”- Navigate to Entities → Devices.
- Click + and select Add new device.
- Enter a Name (must be unique within the tenant).
- Enter an Access token and click Validate.
- Enter a License code and click Validate. If the access token is eligible for the free trial, you can leave this field empty.
- Click Add.
Edit a HMI Device
Section titled “Edit a HMI Device”- Click the HMI Device in the list to open its details panel.
- Click the edit (pencil) button.
- Update the name, profile, or description.
- Click Apply changes.
HMI Device Details
Section titled “HMI Device Details”Opening a device reveals a details panel with the following tabs:
| Tab | Contents |
|---|---|
| Attributes | Client, server, and shared key-value pairs (serial number, firmware version, thresholds) |
| Latest Telemetry | Real-time sensor readings; supports manual entry and deletion by time range |
| Alarms | Active and historical alarms for this HMI Device |
| Relations | Directed connections to other entities |
| Audit Logs | Visible to Tenant Admin users; history of user actions: creation, updates, deletions |
| License | License detail (the license currently applied to the HMI Device) and License history |
The License field shows the license currently applied to the HMI Device, and a banner at the top of the panel appears while the HMI Device uses the free trial and when its license is about to expire or has expired. To register or replace a license from here, see Register a License to a HMI Device.
Common Operations
Section titled “Common Operations”Assign to Customer
Section titled Assign to Customer- Open the device details page.
- Click Assign device to customer.
- Select the customer and click Assign.
Only users associated with that customer can access the HMI Device and its data.
Make Public / Private
Section titled Make Public / PrivateOn the HMI Devices list, use the row action Make HMI Device public to expose HMI Device data publicly. To revoke public access, use Make HMI Device private from the row action or from the HMI Device details page.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| HMI Device stays Inactive | The access token entered when the HMI Device was created doesn’t match the one configured on the HMI panel, or the license is no longer valid | Open the HMI Device details, compare the access token with the panel’s configuration, and check the license status |
| HMI Device stays Inactive although the token is correct | The panel’s transport doesn’t match the HMI Device’s profile | Confirm the HMI Device’s Device profile uses the same transport as the panel |
| HMI Device can’t reach iRis Cloud | Wrong host/port, or the port is blocked | Confirm the host configured on the panel matches your iRis Cloud instance, and that outbound traffic on that port isn’t blocked by a firewall or proxy |
| HMI Device is Active but no telemetry appears | Payload isn’t valid JSON, or uses an unexpected key | Check the panel’s data configuration and compare the key names with the ones shown under Latest telemetry |
What’s Next
Section titled “What’s Next”Once a HMI Device is created and sending data, a natural next step is to visualize it on a dashboard, or set up alarm rules to get notified when its telemetry crosses a threshold.
Where HMI Devices Are Used
Section titled “Where HMI Devices Are Used”- Dashboards — visualize telemetry, attributes, and alarms via widgets
- Relations — model hierarchies
- REST API — query, create, and manage devices programmatically
